1950's fruit pin chunky Lucite and rhinestone pear
* Forbidden Fruit was the nickname for a style of brooches that were manufactured in Austria and Germany during the 1950's. These highly stylized fruits and vegetables used Lucite to create a chunky base, glued-in rhinestones to add some sparkle and then were topped off by a gold or silver plated metal stem and leaves covered in green enamel. Some pieces were made with matching Lucite and rhinestones and others were made in mixed colors. This particular piece is made in transparent orange Lucite with sparkling golden orange rhinestones. As is typical of these pins much of the green enameling is gone, but this does not take anything away from the fun and beauty of the brooch.
* This chunky brooch is 2 1/4" tall and 1 3/8" wide. The chunkiest part of the pear is the bottom half which is nearly 3/4" thick.
* This great mid-century pin is in very good vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches to the Lucite. All rhinestones are present and sparkling and the pin mechanism is original and in good working condition. Its only flaw is loss of enameling to the stem and leaves, which is quite typical of these pins.
